Unraveling the Mystery of the Holy Spirit

RISK TAKING/LOSS  (Part II)

The Gain of Loss! (This method of God is unreasonable)

–Jesus conquered death by dying–

I. Review:

First lesson #1.  What does God want to do with us and the HS? Then

Lesson #2. The three stages of God’s revelation.  God out there, God with them, God in them. Lesson #3. The risk God takes with us. He restrains Himself for the sake of a partnership. He doesn’t need us, He wants us!

And Lesson #4  The gain of loss. (** See Text pp 275ff)

(In today’s lesson we will attempt to answer a very good and hard question)

Question: Does a non-tongues speaking Christian have only “part” of the Holy Spirit? If so, does that negate the value of grace?

  • Think of diamonds.  Think of bicycles and motorcycles.

II. God has made man with the capacity to reject or refuse Him.

“When you go with a closed mind, it is rare for God to violate your prejudices”   — Jack Deere  (**Text, p. 14)

  • Think of fireplace tools  (tongs or extinguisher- p.275 in text)
  • Gods love and grace are so wonderful he’ll let us persist in error and weakness, hoping we’ll mature and accept loss to win! This is the great paradox in scripture.  (**p. 277-8)
  • Story of African father and sons illustrate Mathew 13:12.

“He who is self-centered self-destructs

GOD HAS SO DESIGNED IT SO THE INTELLECTUALLY PROUD AND POWERFUL WON’T FIND IT; ARE GLAD THEY DON’T HAVE IT; PROUD THEY ARE SUPERIOR TO IT.

WHY DID GOD DO THIS? I BELIEVE IT’S SO THE WRONG ONES WON’T GET THE GOOD GIFTS OF THE FATHER!

And then Jesus turned to his disciples and said: “But blessed are your eyes for they see and your ears for they hear”!  Matthew 13:16
