Most news reports say that Islam is the fastest growing religion. Wrong!!

Author James Rutz in a new book, Mega Shift, brings evidence that there is a new, or perhaps, original form of evangelical Christianity sweeping through places like China, Africa, India and Southeast Asia and parts of Latin America  — making it by far the fastest growing faith on the planet. Rutz calls these folks “core apostolics”. We here at CCC know about this group, because we are part of them!

Why has the news media missed this fastest growing group? Because most surveys look at the traditional Protestant denominations and the Roman Catholic Church while ignoring the Christian believers who have no part of either. Besides Rutz, David Barrett the leading statistician of the world’s religions, has been predicting this for 10 years. He says there are 707,000,000 (million) “switched on disciples” who are growing the Church by 8% a year.

According to the author, until 1960, “Western evangelicals outnumbered non-Western evangelicals – mostly Latinos, Blacks and Asians by two to one. As of 2000, non-Western evangelicals outnumbered Westerners by four to one.” That moved to seven to one in 2010. In our own movement, now the largest Protestant church worldwide, the ratio is 20 overseas members to every one Assemblies of God member in America. THIS SHOWS THE IMPORTANCE OF YOUR CONTINUED SACRIFICE IN GIVING, GOING, AND PRAYING FOR WORLD MISSIONS. (Together Something Beautiful).

He writes that there are now more missionaries sent from non-Western nations. This is true of CCC’s affiliated body. The AG mission from America sends 2400 missionaries overseas, (CCC supports 200 of them with your giving) but the churches planted and trained by your missionaries now send 8600 missionaries, totally funded by these National Churches. WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY PASSED THE TORCH! (Together Something Beautiful).

This trend has been missed by Westerners because the explosive growth is elsewhere.

And what is driving this movement? “Miracles” says Rutz as he documents healings and other powerful answers to sincere prayers of this new category of believer. (For more on this, see “Miracles from Ethiopia”.) In the Christian world there are 175,000 new born-again believers every day; 40,000 a day in China alone. As an anthropologist I can tell you how this happened.

The Buddhist concept of filial piety and honoring of the ancestors allowed the eldest son of every family to totally control the religious choices of his brothers and sisters by fear. If one didn’t remain filial (submissive-honoring and venerating the ancestors) the threat of sickness and poverty and death would result. It is amazing that neither the early Christianity of the Nestorians, nor the activity of the Jesuit Catholics, nor the much later influence of Protestant missions could weaken the hold of filial piety on the vast majority of Chinese. Then came Mao Tse Tung. God allowed hated communism, which disallowed all religion, to break the back of this fear. This is not the first time God has used tyrants in history to do His bidding. Think of kings Nebuchadnezzar and Darius of the Old Testament. This is the first generation of Chinese who are quite free to choose Christ the Savior! And the underground “core apostolics” are helping to bring, now over 100,000,000 Chinese to the Lord. Statisticians predict that if the present growth continues that this group, of which we are a part, will surpass the Roman Catholic Church in numbers in 20 more years.
